This week, the FDA completed a rigorous pre-market safety review safety test for Upside Foods, a cultivated meat start-up based in San Francisco, and had no questions regarding the safety of Upside’s cultivated meat products for human consumption.

This is huge milestone in the United States, as Upside is the first cultivated meat company in the country to receive this green light. Although Singapore is still the only country in the world, to have granted the commercial sale of cultivated meat, the U.S. may be well on its way.
Before Upside can sell cultivated meat products to the public, its manufacturing establishment and food products must undergo an inspection from the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS).
